911±¬ÁÏÍø

John R. McCloskey, DBA, has dedicated more than three decades to 911±¬ÁÏÍø, beginning his career as an admissions counselor following his graduation from the university in 1994. Today, he serves as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, providing strategic leadership across university operations and overseeing finance, human resources, facilities, and institutional operations.

A two-time Alvernia graduate, McCloskey has held increasingly senior leadership positions throughout his career. In 2001, he was appointed Director of Athletics and Recreation, where he led the significant expansion of Alvernia’s athletic programs. In 2008, he was named Vice President for Enrollment Management and University Life, assuming responsibility for athletics as well as undergraduate and graduate recruitment and enrollment.

In August 2019, McCloskey was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff. In this role, he served as a key strategic partner to university leadership and played a central role in advancing major institutional initiatives. His responsibilities included helping develop and manage the CollegeTowne vision, as well as overseeing significant construction and facilities projects in Reading and Pottsville. During this period, Alvernia also expanded its academic portfolio with the development and launch of programs in Engineering, Physician Associate, Cyber Security, and other high-demand fields.

McCloskey earned his Master of Business Administration from 911±¬ÁÏÍø in 2001 and his Doctor of Business Administration from Wilmington University in 2016. His more than 30 years of service reflect a deep and enduring commitment to Alvernia’s Catholic Franciscan mission, its students, and the university’s continued growth and success.
